Dr. Rosario Mancusi is a vascular surgeon, a specialist in thoracic surgery and in vascular surgery, who in the years of his surgical training has gained specific expertise in cardio-thoraco-vascular diagnostics and surgical therapy.

1. Why did you start a career in vascular surgery?
I was born as a thoracic surgeon in the 1990s but in my training i had the possibility to know and follow great masters who first approached me to heart surgery and then vascular. Then my interest in the minimally invasive surgery which in those years in the thoracic area did have its development has driven me to knowledge of increasingly interesting technologies and methodologies to which i have approved directly as a diagnostic surgery operator; Endoscopic collection of the great safenous vein in Cardiac surgery; laser or radiofrequency ablation in vascular surgery etc. therefore my training first and my daily activity then interested the entire cardio-thoraco-vascular area.
2. What are the cases that you most love to show and why?
Today my interest embraces the entire vascular surgery but i like the endovascular and minimally invasive techniques: EVAR, Endovenous Venous surgery (laser, rf, glue), carotids etc.
3. What was your clinical research document about?
My thesis of specialization in thoracic surgery concerned “minimally invasive cardiac surgery” that in 1998; the following specialization texts in vascular surgery “branched endoprothesis in the treatment of aorto-iliac aneurismas”. As i said also from this it shows my continuous interest in minimal invasive and endovascular surgery, not leaving the traditional open surgery that for me always remains current and essential in the modern and formative cultural baggage.
4. What would you recommend to young doctors who will start soon to perform vascular surgery?
Well i already answered: The modern vascular surgeon must have skills and skills for all the current innovative technologies and methodologies and therefore essential is the training and the years that invest in training. But a good surgeon cannot not know the history, the past for which it is necessary to study and do it well without getting bettered by the new and convenient, you will be an excellent surgeon only if you have acquired knowledge and right skills.
5. How do you like to spend your time outside work?
It is simple, in the family. My family that supports me and allows me to invest a lot of time. Often sacrificing their own. I love sports like bicycle and tennis. I have interest slow smoking and cigars. I love to read about innovation and technology.
